There are many variables that affect detection. Here are some tips to set up the INSPEC to avoid false positives without missing true positives.

Illumination

Ensure that your face is sufficiently illuminated. Aim the infrared light at the wall you are facing and tilt the spotlight to find the angle where face detection works best.

Some modern room lights, especially dimmable lights, create background noise as they flicker on and off at a rate that the INSPEC detects. If the blue variance line doesn't idle at 0 when there are no movements, turn off the room lights and use only the provided infrared light.

Face Angle

Face detection works best when the face is perfectly upright in the video feed. The INSPEC should be tilted to match the angle of your face on your pillow. Experiment with different angles and the Draw Face Region setting enabled for immediate feedback. The INSPEC can be placed on some books to raise it higher than your head so that the pillow does not obscure the view. Or it can be mounted on the headboard with Vertical Flip enabled to correct the rotation.

Hallucinations

Face detection works best when there are no patterns in the background. White or plain bedding with no patterns helps limit detection errors.

The Face Confidence, Face Stages, and Face Threshold settings can be adjusted to further limit detection errors.

Artifacts

Small, rhythmic body movements from breathing can sometimes trigger false positives - especially if you sleep with a pillow or blanket over your head, as these can create motion patterns in the face region that are similar to eye movements.

The Artifact Filter can be increased to ignore movements in the face region if there are also movements outside the face region.

The Track Eyes setting can be enabled to filter out artifacts from breathing with an open mouth or from sleep talking.

The Toss Cooldown period can be increased to limit false detection when tossing and turning during sleep.
