Due to license documentation issues, most package managers provide a version of the Arduino IDE that is outdated by 5 years. For this reason, recommending installation of the Arduino IDE from a package manager is a bad idea.

On the flip side, recommending that people install proprietary software built by a single organization without external audit is not a good idea either.

Perhaps it makes more sense to fix arduino/Arduino#2703, make Arduino a libre software package again, and allow distributions to build and distribute Arduino?
